An Answer to the Midianite Genocide Issue

Hey everyone. If you're a regular reader of my blog, you may remember the extreme amount of trouble I had with a section of text in Numbers 31 where God sanctioned the genocide of a race of people called the Midianites. To be honest, I almost gave up on this whole project after reading that. If the God I am worshiping did something this awful and seemingly unfounded, he wasn't someone I wanted to be worshiping, or bothering to read what is considered to be "His Word".

Eventually, I just accepted the fact that I would eventually find an answer, and that I had not yet read the entire Bible, and it would be unfair to quit so early in the process. It would be like shutting off Back to the Future before Marty even got in the Delorean.

In the meantime, I posed the question to the Metro Bible Blog - the church I briefly attended last year. And Pastor Steven, who monitors the blog, did come up with an answer for me. It didn't completely absolve the issue in my mind, but it certainly helped.

Check it out here: http://metrobibleblog.wordpress.com/2010/04/01/biblical-genocide-really/

Thanks
