Reading for February 9
Exodus 29:1-30:10
God continues here with the specific instructions on become a priest for God and Israel. Most of the instructions revolve around the slaughtering of a ram and what to do with the various parts of said ram. Then he goes back to talk about the garments that were laid out in the previous reading and how they should be passed down to the next generation, and so on.
Again, not very interesting stuff. So let's keep a-rolling.
Matthew 26:14-46
The Lord's Supper, the First Communion and Judas
So the Jesus story starts moving along here - and this is the part of the gospels I am most familiar with. First off we have The Lord's Supper. Jesus announces that he will be handed over and killed at this dinner and also announces that someone among them will betray him. Turns out it's Judas.
Then Jesus realizes what is happening the following day and starts to freak out. The text says he was overcome with sorry to the point of death. That's pretty serious. And think - he was terrified, and actually asked God for the whole crucifixion not to happen - but he did it anyway, he went to the cross and died for us. I think so often we see Jesus as this super hero, kind of emotionally invincible kind of person, but to know that he goes through sorrow like we do is extremely comforting.
Psalm 31:19-24
19 How great is the goodnessanother piece of the fear of God collection mystery.
you have stored up for those who fear you.
You lavish it on those who come to you for protection,
blessing them before the watching world.
20 You hide them in the shelter of your presence,
safe from those who conspire against them.
You shelter them in your presence,
far from accusing tongues.'
Proverbs 8:14-26
I am knowledge - hear me...adjust my glasses
Solomon continues on with the praising of knowledge and does a little characterization of knowledge here - kind of telling this piece of text from the first person view of wisdom.
It took me so long to write those last few sentences. I'm so tired and my fingers arene't working as dextrously as I would like.
Sleeptime.
